Opinions about Languages ActFor many First Nations, the Official Languages Act confirmed Francophones and Anglophones as members of Canadian society, but not Aboriginal peoples. Aboriginal peoples saw Canada as more than a bicultural society based on a Francophone-Anglophone partnership. They wanted Canada’s laws to reflect a different understanding of Canada’s history and citizenship: a three-way partnership among Aboriginal, Francophone and Anglophone peoples.
